Switch 2 Direct
Oh boy, so much to talk about…
Here are some thoughts about the biggest topics. I will do separate posts for the most topics later.
Mario Kart World
The game looks freaking amazing. As I expected, it is the launch game and available as a bundle. The graphics, the characters, the gameplay looks really good and it looks next gen as well.
I’m really happy with the results and I’m looking forward to playing it day one.
The Switch 2 console and its features
I did not expect 120fps and 4k 60fps for most (or even all?) games. I know there were rumors, but they sounded outlandish.
The features of the C-Button look great. I am not really a discord user to use voice chat during play sessions, but now, since it is integrated, I might actually use it with friends and family.
The camera is something I did not expect, as well.
GameShare is amazing. Only one purchase is necessary to play with friends. This will make it easy to convince people to buy a game, since it can be tested with friends before.
Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
As expected, some Switch 1 games will get Upgrade Packs. However, I did not expect additional content!
This is amazing. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom get new content. Kirby Forgotten Land even gets a new Story. And all games will be 4K 60fps. This sounds too good to be true.
So this must be expensive, right? Actually, no. Apparently, if you are subscribed to NSO, you’ll get these for free…
As I posted in my predictions, I was hoping for a free upgrade for subscribers, but I did not expect it to actually happen. So I am super happy.
Third Party Games
All third party games I wanted to be announced were actually announced during the direct. Elden Ring, FF7 Remake, Cyberpunk, Split Fiction, Street Fighter 6, …
If all of these games run in 4k and thanks to DLSS with 60fps, then, why would someone buy a PS5? Like seriously.
You get all of the games, which apparently might run better or let’s say more fluent and you can even play it on the go! Plus all the Nintendo games!
GameCube NSO
GameCube games as a Classic console in NSO was not something I did expect. I thought the games would be too big to be shared via a download. It will be interesting to see how big the games will end up being.
It was also interesting to see no mention of Smash during this segment. Smash Bros Melee is a very important game for the community and mentioning Smash here would have been huge. Probably too huge and would result in bigger discussions and undermine the other things in the direct.
It will very likely come to NSO one day, but I think it was good Nintendo didn’t promise it, yet.
Moreover, very smart by Nintendo to sell the GameCube Controller, with a C-Button, for the new GameCube NSO games. This will be sold so much, not just because of GameCube Classic games, but also for Smash Ultimate and very likely for the next Smash.
Donkey Kong Bananza
No 3D Mario?? Instead we get Donkey Kong?
I say good! The game looks fun and will definitely be good and is releasing very soon.
Now give me 3D Mario, also, please!
Pricing
Oh boy, oh boy…
When Nintendo did not list the prices in the Direct, I knew, that it will be expensive! To be honest, the console pricing is fine, actually. It is just a little more expensive than most people expected, but it is not outlandish.
However, the games! Nintendo did it and crossed the $80 mark. This is crazy.
This is probably something that should’ve happened a long time ago, because games are actually too cheap currently, in my opinion.
But the jump from $60 to $80 is too much.
With all that said. Nintendo is basically saying, buy the Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle. The game then only cost like $50.
A very good plan to make Mario Kart Nintendos next most sold game, since basically every console will be sold with the game.
